New Frontiers in Creativity, Learning and Technology Research(2:30:07) International symposium, online event organised by the WCCI and SLATE. Co-organizers: Vlad Glaveanu (Webster University Geneva), Ingunn Ness (University of Bergen) and Constance de Saint Laurent (University of Bologna). It has been three years since the Webster Center for Creativity and Innovation (WCCI), Webster University Geneva, and the Centre for the Science of Learning and Technology (SLATE), University of Bergen, held the first international symposium on ‘Creativity, learning and technology’. Since then, the world has radically changed, and changed in ways that make a deeper understanding of the intersections between creativity, learning and technology more important than ever. It is not only the case that every year marks new advancements in the field of (educational) technologies - that both require and shape our capacity for creative learning - but the current pandemic has driven most teaching and learning online, with all the challenges and opportunities associated with such a move.In this context, the virtual meeting ‘New frontiers in creativity, learning and technology research’ will brought together experts in all these areas, from different countries, who participated in the 2017 edition and who shared with us the newest developments in their work and a range of valuable insights into how we learn and create using old and current technologies. Their reflections are expected to shed new light on creative learning in online and offline spaces, as well as the numerous complexities COVID-19 presents us with as individuals and societies. The event celebrated two outcomes from the initial symposium: a special issue 'Creativity, Learning and Technology' published by Creativity Research Journal (volume 32, issue 1, 2020) and, based on it, a book from Routledge, ‘Creative Learning in Digital and Virtual Environments: Opportunities and Challenges of Technology-Enabled Learning and Creativity’ (2021).More information at: https://webster.ch/news/2020/files/internationalsymposium2020.pdf

Wonder: The Meaning and Value of Wondering in Education and in Society(1:05:11) This talk is part of the WCCI lecture series (for more information about the Webster Center for Creativity and Innovation visit wcci.webster.ch)Philosophy begins in wonder. And much more follows from it. When wondering, we make the familiar unfamiliar. We don’t know and enjoy exploring the limits of our knowledge. We raise questions we have never raised before. We marvel at the world and at our place within it. We imagine and create. Wonder is more than a human phenomenon; it is what makes us human. In this talk, Dr Glăveanu will examine the nature and characteristics of wonder as a social and psychological process. Dr Glăveanu will connect wondering with our general capacity to become aware of and explore the possible in our lives and the lives of others. Wonder, then, has an important role to play in education, even if we rarely cultivate it often because we don’t often value, in the classroom, the experience of dwelling in the unknown. Equally, in society, to wonder means to start questioning ideas that we usually take for granted and to (re)imagine social life. This is why wonder – including collective wondering – is so central for social movements and activism. And also why it is often seen as dangerous by those in power. After all, Socrates was made to drink hemlock for educating the Athenian youth to wonder. Are we ready to reassess our relation to this fundamental human process in the 21st century? Dr Glăveanu will argue not only that we should but that we must, if we are to raise new generations capable of complex, critical, and creative thinking. This online event will also mark the launch of the book Wonder: The extraordinary power of an ordinary experience, published by Bloomsbury in 2020.About the Speaker:Vlad Glăveanu, PhD, is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology and Counselling at Webster University Geneva, Associate Professor II at Bergen University, Norway, and Director of the Webster Center for Creativity and Innovation (WCCI). His work focuses on creativity, imagination, culture, collaboration, and societal challenges. He edited the Palgrave Handbook of Creativity and Culture (2016) and the Oxford Creativity Reader (2018) and co-edited the Cambridge Handbook of Creativity Across Domains (2017) and the Oxford Handbook of Imagination and Culture (2017). He co-edits the book series Palgrave Studies in Creativity and Culture for Palgrave Macmillan. Vlad is editor of Europe’s Journal of Psychology (EJOP), an open-access peer-reviewed journal published by PsychOpen (Germany). He received, in 2018, the Berlyne Award from the American Psychological Association for outstanding early career contributions to the field of aesthetics, creativity, and the arts.

Trumpian Rhetoric, Alt-Health, Boogaloo, & Conspiratorial Thinking During COVID-19 - Bradley Wiggins(1:11:00) The COVID-19 pandemic uniquely represents an unprecedented health crisis that has permeated all aspects of human society. Given the technological affordances of social media to disseminate fact-based and fake news, this talk explores the serious and strategic messaging associated with conspiratorial thinking that appears to characterize seemingly disparate groups such as boogaloo and QAnon as well as the anti-vaxxer movement. With the problematic politicization of COVID-19, healthy skepticism is replaced with conspiracy absent of theory.Bio: Bradley E Wiggins, PhD has been associate professor and department head of Media Communications at Webster Vienna Private University since 2015. His research interests include digital culture, new media, and strategic communication. His scholarship has been published in competitive journals, such as Simulation & Gaming, New Media & Society, International Journal of Communication, the International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics, Internet Pragmatics, and a monograph published in 2019 by Routledge.
